Our Work in Hong Kong

Our Work in Hong Kong

Public education is a core part of our work in Hong Kong. Over the past three years, we deepened our local engagement by organizing over 80 sharing sessions and events across corporations, schools, churches, and seminaries—reaching more than 5,800 individuals. These gatherings served as powerful platforms to raise awareness about modern slavery and human trafficking, while inviting communities to take meaningful action. Whether through educational talks, interactive workshops or lunch & learn events, we witnessed growing momentum among friends in Hong Kong to stand against violence and exploitation.

A group of students from Diocesan Boys’ School participated in a student volunteer programme with IJM and took what they learned about modern slavery back to campus by doing a presentation and exhibition.

We had the pleasure of engaging students and teachers from Hong Kong International School (HKIS) through classroom sharing sessions and a special visit to IJM Hong Kong, held as part of their Social Service & Learning week.

In summer 2024, we launched our first internship program, inviting passionate university students and graduates to join our mission. Through advocacy, event planning, and public engagement, they helped raise awareness on human trafficking—highlighting the power of youth-led advocacy and public education in building a world free from violence and oppression.

We are grateful for the support of churches in Hong Kong and the opportunity to co-organize sharing sessions, Bible studies, and prayer gatherings. Together, we aim to educate local communities on the realities of slavery and human trafficking.

Besides raising public awareness of modern slavery, we also seek to mobilise funding from different sectors to support the expansion of programs addressing relief and protection of people in poverty, sustaining our frontline rescue operation and program work around the world.

“Raising Hope” is a series of events launched by a group of passionate supporters committed to driving positive change—especially for vulnerable children trapped in online sexual exploitation in the Philippines. The first event in March 2024 marked the beginning of this movement with a private fundraising dinner, rallying friends and networks to support our work in the Philippines.

In October 2024, we hosted a follow-up cocktail reception to continue raising awareness of this urgent issue, with heartfelt thanks to former Philippines Consul General Germinia V. Aguilar-Usudan, her team, and all supporters who stood with us to bring rescue and freedom to the oppressed.

The third event, held in October 2025 at the residence of Mrs. and Mr. Maurits ter Kuile, Consul General of the Netherlands in Hong Kong and Macau, gathered over 200 guests to confront global challenges and champion stories of survival and systemic change. The “Raising Hope” fundraiser achieved an extraordinary milestone—raising HK$1.38 million to combat online sexual exploitation of children in the Philippines.

In March 2025, we had the privilege of hosting Merlin Freeda, IJM India’s National Director of Programs, for two special dinning events generously supported by our supporters. Over 50 guests gathered to hear Merlin share the harsh reality of bonded labor slavery in India and how IJM is working to strengthen the local justice system. To date, more than 13,000 victims have been rescued and restored.

We are honoured to have Deror Jewellery design the Pipeline necklace to celebrate the 25th anniversary of IJM, commemorating all its effort to ending slavery and human trafficking.

Hosted in partnership with IJM Hong Kong and local brand The Blomstre, the workshop offered Googlers a chance to understand the realities of human trafficking while crafting candles as gifts for survivors in the Philippines.

Our honor to be a part of ReThink Hong Kong Conference which was well-attended by over 6,000 delegates. Andrey Sawchenco, IJM’s Regional Vice-President of Asia Pacific, spoke at a panel on sustainable finance and supply chain, highlighting the importance of consistence accountability of existing laws and regulations which will act as a huge protector for the most vulnerable workers.

IJM Hong Kong partnered with Spaces co-working offices to host a series of Lunch and Learn roadshows across four locations. Nearly 100 professionals took time out of their lunch hour to engage with the urgent realities of human trafficking— particularly its impact on vulnerable children living in poverty.

Gather justice-minded individuals for a powerful documentary and discussion on modern-day slavery. Our screenings and sharing sessions spotlight human trafficking and inspire action. Groups are welcome to co-organize with us and amplify the impact.
