A stolen childhood
At just 12 years old, Cassie was lured from her remote mountain village in the Philippines by a trusted family friend promising education and a better life in Manila. Instead, she was thrust into a horrifying world of online sexual exploitation.
For nearly five years, Cassie was forced to perform sex acts on camera for predators around the world. Her trafficker posed as a benevolent father figure, hiding his crimes behind a façade of generosity. Cassie lived in fear, silenced by threats, and surrounded by other young victims—including a baby girl and a 6-year-old boy.
The journey from rescue to restoration and justice
In 2014, Cassie’s nightmare finally came to an end. With the support of IJM, Philippine authorities carried out a rescue operation that brought her and other children to safety. That night, Cassie met her IJM social worker— someone who gently assured her that she was not in trouble. She was free. From that moment on, the social worker walked alongside her on the path to healing.
Cassie was placed in a loving aftercare home she calls her “second home,” where she found healing, empowerment, and renewed hope. With IJM’s support, she bravely testified in court against her abuser, helping to secure justice for herself and others.
A fearless voice for the voiceless
Now 27, Cassie is a college graduate, a provider for her family, and a relentless advocate for children still trapped in silent violence. As one of the survivor leaders in IJM’s Philippine Survivor Network and a co-founder of “United and Free”, an organization that support survivor’s reintegration, she transforms her painful experience into a purpose—advocating for the end of online sexual exploitation of children.
Cassie’s voice is no longer silenced. It’s a force for justice—and a beacon of hope for every child still waiting to be free.
