Today, we crossed a meaningful milestone in the fight against the online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC). In 2011, the very first cases of this crime were reported in the Philippines. As of 15 September, 2022, a total of 1008 exploited and at-risk children\u00a0have been rescued and removed from danger by the Philippine government in IJM-supported operations.<\/strong>\u00a0That\u2019s 1008 lives moved from abusive environments into a place of hope, freedom and restoration.\u00a0We celebrate these brave children<\/strong> \u2013 many of whom have become courageous advocates to end this form of exploitation and protect the lives of vulnerable children.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n We also celebrate the leadership of the Philippine government <\/strong>in enforcing their laws, holding perpetrators of this child abuse and exploitation accountable, and restoring survivors to safety and health.\u00a0Specifically, we recognise: PNP-WCPC (Philippine National Police – Women and Children Protection Center); NBI-AHTRAD (National Bureau of Investigation – Anti Human Trafficking Division); DOJ (Department of Justice), and DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development).\u00a0This level of shared commitment, collaboration, and application of a trauma-informed and victim-centered response among government agencies is a powerful force and only growing stronger in the fight to end the online sexual exploitation of children.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n And we celebrate you \u2013<\/em> our partners, advocates, friends and supporters <\/strong>\u2500\u2500<\/em> for joining hands with us to ensure all children in the Philippines are safe from this crime. As this local and global community of child protection grows, so does our collective ability to shield children from the threat of online sexual exploitation.
